I will not die entirely, my friend,
As long as my memory
lives in your soul.
A verse, a word, a smile,
They will tell you clearly that I am not dead.
I will return with silent evenings,
with the star that shines for you,
with the breeze that rises between the leaves,
with the fountain that dreams in the garden.
I will return with the piano that sobs
Chopin's nocturnal stopovers;
with the slow agony of things
they don't know how to die.
With everything romantic, it immolates
this cruel world that tears me apart.
I'll be by your side when you're alone
like a shadow next to your shadow.
